Head Coach
Steve Silsby enters his third season as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at the University of Great Falls in 2008. After spending one year as an assistant at UGF, Steve was selected to replace Antonio Veloso after his departure in 2006. Steve spent the 2005-06 season as the assistant men’s basketball coach and head golf coach for the Argonauts.


Steve came to UGF after spending three years at Scottsdale Community College serving as the assistant men’s basketball coach and assistant athletic director. He also served two years as the assistant men’s basketball coach and intramural director at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, where the Lions participated in the NJCAA I National Tournament both years.


Prior to his time in the JUCO ranks, Steve spent 5 years working for the Arizona State Men's program as a student assistant coach. During his time in Tempe, the Sun Devils advanced to the 1995 NCAA national tournament beating Wagner College and Ball State University before bowing out to Kentucky in the Sweet Sixteen.

 

Steve is the husband of Carrie and they have three children; Bennett, Barron, and Brady.


Fun Fact: Steve still holds his high school team’s record for consecutive free-throws made with 42.

Mike Miranto

Men's Basketball

Assistant Coach
Mike Miranto arrived at UGF after three seasons as the Head Junior Varsity Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach at North Tonawanda High School (NTHS) in suburban Buffalo, NY. In his three seasons on the staff at NTHS, Miranto aided in the development of several all-league players while overseeing the program's administrative duties. Miranto was also an assistant on the school's football coaching staff for two seasons and was a coach in the Niagara Hoops Salukis AAU Basketball Program.

 

As a player at NTHS, Miranto was a four-year letterman and finished his career as the school's second all-time leading scorer while establishing school records for games played, three-point shots, assists and steals. He was twice named to the First Team All-Niagara Frontier League as well as a two-time All-Western New York selection and two-time Tonawanda News Area Player of the Year.

 

After high school, Miranto competed at the NCAA Division III level for Buffalo State College from 2001-2004 and was a key member of the Bengal's 2002-03 team which captured the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championship, advancing to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

 

 

Ron Riley

Men's Basketball

Assistant Coach
Ron Riley joined the men's basketball staff at the University of Great Falls for the 2007-08 season and serves as the Head Junior Varsity Coach as well as assisting with the varsity team. Riley comes to UGF after an extensive playing career spanning several continents and various professional leagues.

 

A standout performer at Arizona State University from 1992-1996, Riley currently stands as the 4th all-time leading scorer at the Pac-10 affiliated school. A Pac-10 All-Freshman Team selection in 1993 and a 2nd Team All-Pac 10 selection in 1996, Riley was drafted in the Second Round (47th overall pick) of the 1996 NBA Draft by the Seattle Supersonics.

 

After a brief stint in the NBA, Riley took his game overseas, spending time in Europe and Asia between 1997-2002. During his time overseas, Riley won an Austrian League Championship in 2000 and he was the Austrian Cup MVP in 2001. In addition to Austria, Ron played in professional leagues in Belgium, Puerto Rico and The Philippines.
During his overseas off-season, he competed as a member of the CBA's Rockford Lightning from 1996-2002. In 2003, he played for the NBA Development League's Huntsville Flight team.
