The University of Great Falls is very pleased to announce the support and educational partnership of the Great Falls community. In these difficult economic times, Great Falls businesses and community members have pledged $200,000 for the new “Great for Great Falls…and Montana” scholarship campaign. University of Great Falls President Eugene McAllister said, “This is extraordinary generosity and we at the University of Great Falls are very grateful.”
The difficult economic times are affecting families’ ability to invest in higher education, particularly in private education, like the University of Great Falls. The University of Great Falls has created a new scholarship, called “Great for Great Falls….and Montana,” with the goal of bringing in more students from the high schools in Great Falls and Montana to attend the University of Great Falls.
The scholarship is intended to provide more resources for regular students, and is targeted at students who are not receiving athletic scholarships. The priority is 2009 graduates from the four Great Falls high schools and the College of Technology.
The “Great for Great Falls…and Montana” scholarship is roughly $1,000 to $1,500 per year, for four years. When added to the scholarships that the University currently offers, academic scholarships and others such as the Catholic Parish Scholarship, a student’s scholarship package can total over $10,000.
Each “Great for Great Falls…and Montana” recipient will be required to participate in some activity or club on campus and complete an internship with a Great Falls business or organization.
McAllister points out the support from the Great Falls community is doubly powerful: It helps Great Falls and Montana students achieve a college education and it helps the student build ties within the Great Falls community, affirming that the University of Great Falls is Great Falls’ University.
